Scripps Mercy Chula Vista Earns American College of Radiology
Accreditation for MRI
Scripps Mercy Hospital’s Chula Vista campus has been awarded a
three-year accreditation for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
after a recent survey by the American College of Radiology
(ACR).
The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for achieving high
practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its
practice. Image quality and procedure evaluations are conducted
by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who are
experts in the field. The program also evaluates personnel
qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control
procedures and quality assurance programs.
MRI scans allow physicians to access highly refined views of
the body’s interior without surgery. The procedure is used to
scan many parts of the body but is particularly useful for
imaging the brain and spine, as well as the soft tissue of
joints and the interior structure of bones. As a result, an MRI
scan can detect a variety of problems, such as tumors,
bleeding, injury or infection. MRI scans can provide more
detail about a problem discovered during an X-ray, ultrasound
or CT scan and offers a number of other advantages.
“This rigorous survey process has given us the opportunity to
measure our quality standards and continue to improve upon the
quality and delivery of care to our patients,” said Tom
Gammiere, FACHE, chief executive, Scripps Mercy Hospital. “We
are very proud of this accreditation, which evaluates the
qualifications of our personnel, equipment performance and the
effectiveness of our quality control measures.”
Scripps Mercy Hospital’s Chula Vista campus also is a
designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, having
consistently demonstrated excellence in mammography,
stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and
ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
