Property Tax Sale Auction on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 9:00 am.
The auction will take place at the San Diego Convention Center located at 111 West Harbor Drive, Room 6A in downtown San Diego.
“Currently we have a total of 270 tax defaulted properties available for auction, including 24 improved properties, 176 timeshares and 70 unimproved parcels,” stated McAllister. “We have a number of properties available for auction and my hope is that we will have a lot of bidders at the auction.”
Interested bidders have until Friday, February 19, 2010 to register for the Tax Sale. Bidders may obtain a registration packet for $50.00 at the County Administration Center, or at either the San Marcos or El Cajon branch offices. A $1,000.00 deposit is required to register which will be applied to any purchases, or refunded if no purchases are made or there is a remaining balance to be paid on a successful bid.
“We are setting the deadline to register one week before the Property Tax Auction to give our prospective bidders enough time do their due diligence,” said McAllister. “Because we do not issue refunds for purchases, our hope is that bidders will do their homework before they bid to buy.”
Each year the San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector, in accordance with California state law, conducts a public auction to sell properties that have had outstanding property tax liabilities for five years or longer. If all properties sell at this year’s auction, the sale will generate $884,692.37, enough to pay back taxes and penalties. Minimum bids are set based on the total amount of back taxes, penalties and sales costs.
Owners of delinquent properties have until Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 5:00 pm, the day before the tax sale, to bring their taxes up to date, or their property will be auctioned off.
Information on the current availability of the properties going to auction can be obtained by calling our Tax Sale Information Line at (619) 531-4862 or by accessing our website at www.sdtreastax.com.
