Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden Features Iconic Characters
Public Gains Access to “Never Before Seen” Bronze Sculptures at
Landmark Hotel Del
For the first time, the public will have unfettered access to
the most famous characters created by Dr. Seuss as part of a
national touring sculpture garden. The Cat in the Hat, the
Grinch, Sam I Am from Green Eggs and Ham, Yertle the Turtle and
the Lorax (Seuss’s groundbreaking environmental book) will be
immortalized as bronze sculptures as a tribute to the literary
and artistic legacy of Dr. Seuss aka Theodor Seuss Geisel. The
5’ and 8’ bronze sculptures will be available for public
viewing at the famous Hotel del Coronado, a National Historic
Landmark Hotel, through June 30th. The sculpture garden can be
viewed online at

Ted Geisel wrote 44 books between 1937 and 1990, changing the
way generations of children learned to read. While his most
prominent legacy is in children’s literacy, his artistic legacy
continues to cross over generations and genres impacting the
worlds of art, literature, pop and high culture. Many of
today’s top talents pay tribute to Dr. Seuss as a key influence
in their own artistic development. As Dr. Seuss said, “Fantasy
is a necessary ingredient in living; it’s a way of looking at
life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do,
and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” This
exhibit is in recognition of Seuss’ creative talent and an
opportunity for the public to enjoy the life principals
expressed and memories associated with his books and art.

About The Art of Dr. Seuss
For over 60 years, Dr. Seuss’s illustrations brought a visual
realization to his fantastic and imaginary worlds. However, his
artistic talent went far beyond the printed page to his
collection of Secret Art. Seuss always dreamed of sharing these
works with his fans and had entrusted his wife, Audrey, to
carry out his wishes once he was gone. In 1997, this dream was
realized when The Art of Dr. Seuss project was launched. For
the first time in history collectors were able to see and
acquire lithographs, serigraphs and sculpture reproduced from
Geisel’s original drawings and paintings. This historic project
has opened the world’s eyes to the unique artistic talent of
Dr. Seuss and, as such, galleries, museums and collectors have
helped make Audrey Geisel’s promise, and Dr. Seuss’s dream, a
reality.
