A Thousand Hands Celebrate the Opening of New Ronald McDonald House

MESA Integrated Marketing, Inc. - June 15, 2009

A Thousand Hands Celebrate the Opening of New Ronald McDonald HouseIt was a joyous occasion on Saturday as a thousand hands connected, involving San Diegans from all walks of life, passing along books, blankets, teddy bears, toys and many other household items from the old Ronald McDonald House located two blocks down the street to the new 65,000 sq. ft. Ronald McDonald House located at 2929 Children’s Way. The human chain was organized to mark the official grand opening of the new House that will each year serve 20,000 care-giving families, with ill children in local hospitals, who will reside or obtain day care services there.

San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders delivered a city proclamation to the Ronald McDonald House President and CEO Bill Lennartz as the crowd looked on. The celebration also included House tours, playtime with Ronald McDonald and a lunch BBQ.

Located atop a 6-story parking garage, the new House has 47 bedrooms, including 13 larger rooms for long-term guests. A great room with a living room and dining for 100 serves as the central gathering spot for residents and day use visitors. The dining room is supported by two fully-equipped kitchens --one for families to use and the other for commercial purposes. Rooms surround two courtyards including an active courtyard with a sport court and play yard, and a contemplative courtyard with a healing garden.
